Welcome to Commonplace Eco-Village

Introduction

Commonplace Eco-Village is a registered environmental charity (#826822546) with a goal of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions in our home, food production and transportation by 90% by 2014. We are starting by building our eco-home which will be a real life example of how we can live without municipal services and utilities, save money, and minimize our ecological footprint.

Our website contains videos, slideshows, and text to illustrate what we plan to achieve in the coming months and years. You will find video presentations providing an overview of our initiatives. We hope to replace these videos with our own as we implement our plans.

With your enthusiastic support, our success is guaranteed. We need your help in implementing many exciting projects as we learn about sustainability together. If you wish to participate in the success of Commonplace Eco-Village, please contact us now:

Winter at Commonplace Eco-Village

Commonplace Eco-Village's Eco-Home Niagara will be finished shortly. We will begin giving tours of the home in March. It's made from waste material and is powered by waste. It's "off-grid"; reducing its carbon footprint by 75%; costs about the same as conventional homes, but without monthly utility bills. It will be open to the public in the new year.

"Quick Wins" home energy program launched in Niagara

Commonplace Eco-Village, has collaborated with Sustainable Niagara, Niagara Sustainability Initiative, Niagara-on-the-Lake Sustainability Network, and Team E.N.E.R.G.I (Niagara Peninsula Homes) to offer free draft proofing to Niagara residents who receive an energy evaluation from CPEV.

This service, sponsored by Environment Canada, will help improve the energy efficiency of your home by sealing leaks, saving you money on heating bills.

Tony Barrett, Executive Director of Commonplace Eco-Village, is an experienced home energy auditor. “Most energy efficiency upgrades are expensive, but we can reduce energy costs for free. We’re very excited to offer this program to Niagara homeowners, especially older homes” Mr. Barrett said.

The “Quick Wins” Home Energy Program will only be offered for a short time and homeowners should jump at the opportunity.

To find out more information about the program please contact us at 1-866-524-3088.
